Transportation Assistance

MMA Safe Shuttle:
The Maine Maritime Academy Safe Shuttle is a student-operated transportation service designed to help students travel off campus and to Bucksport in a safe and reliable manner. Operated by student drivers, the Safe Shuttle provides an added layer of safety and accessibility for students who may not have personal transportation. Since its establishment in Spring 2024, the Safe Shuttle has transported more than 1,200 passengers, reflecting strong student utilization and its important role in supporting student well-being and off-campus access. Students can utilize the Safe Shuttle through the MMA App.

Penobscot Lot:
If a student needs a pick-up or drop-off at the Penobscot Lot, they should coordinate with the Curtis Front Desk during regular business hours (Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.). Requests for rides to the Penobscot Lot need to be made at least 24 hours in advance – this is especially important for weekend transportation needs.

Medical Appointments:

Students who need a ride to medical appointments in Bucksport, Bangor, Ellsworth, and Blue Hill or to the Penobscot Lot will need to request a ride at least two business days in advance of an appointment to ensure we have van and driver availability. The cost of this service is a flat rate of $25.00 and $14.65 an hour.

Requests for transportation, or questions, can be directed to the Curtis Hall Front Desk Administrative Assistant or any Student Services professional staff member.

Break Transportation:

In preparation for breaks when the campus is closed, the Residential Life Department will send emails to students that will include a transportation request form. Residential Life will place as many students as possible in taxis to and from Bangor. The cost of a taxi ride is divided equally among the students on each taxi.
