Crushing COVID Winner - John Weeks

Unsung Hero
John Weeks

At the beginning of the Covid mess, the campus shut down. Hildy and I continued to work on campus to purchase necessary services and supplies for MMA, to get invoices paid, etc. and we couldn’t have carried out those important functions without Jonathan going above and beyond. Jonathan worked the day shift in Campus Safety and he volunteered to go get the campus mail. That was not a small thing because we were still getting huge amounts of student mail and other large packages for the campus. He would bring huge bins of mail to the 2nd floor of Leavitt and Hildy and I would sort it out. We didn’t ask him to deliver it around campus after we sorted it – we were just going to keep adding to large piles – but he did so all on his own. Much of the campus community left abruptly and he also went all around campus and cleaned out trash cans, emptied refrigerators, cleaned up things left undone, etc. without anyone asking him to do so. We found this out from another source, but it was evident when you walked into any of the buildings. He offered to come get outgoing mail each afternoon and that saved both Hildy and me from doing so. He always checked in with us several times during the day to see if we wanted him to do anything that would help us get our jobs done.

He was really an unsung hero for all he did during those weeks to keep the campus clean and to help us to keep the finance side of things chugging along.

I would like to nominate John Weeks from the MMA Safety Department for the Unsung Hero Awards. I have watched John from the beginning of our shutdown pitch in and help in any way possible. I have seen John get people to where they need to go on campus, empty trash, look for meeting supplies for people, pick up mail, and help sort and deliver it across campus. Just yesterday he had to help me into my office again! He is always willing to help in any way possible with a smile and I would like him to know he is very appreciated.
