The crew kept a close watch on the ship as we had gale force winds and rain overnight at our anchorage in Grey River. The anchor held tight and we all awoke to views of waterfalls that appeared overnight with the rain.
The forecast was for rain all day so the crew turned to a field day to clean the ship. The afternoon was broken into three classes:
- Passage planning: students planned the passage and laid out the courses and distances back to Maine
- Boat handling: students practiced boathandling skills with the ship’s RIB. For some, it was the first time running a tiller-driven outboard engine
- Marlin spike seamanship: students practiced skills in knots, splicing, whipping, and stitching sail
The rainy day went fast with all the activity, and the weather was clear by dinner time.
