Final Touch-ups

Posted on: June 5, 2018

We are doing some final touch-ups on Bowdoin. We painted the boat and completed all of the rigging. We’ve also bent on the sails, rigged up the sails, and finally run them up during our shake-down day sail today.

We’ve made the ship feel like home. We stowed everything, loaded all of the safety gear, made our beds, and moved in.

We are getting into the swing of our daily schedules. We begin each day with Deep Clean (DC) and end the day with a deck wash. We have started a duty schedule which includes waking up the crew, putting the colors out, assisting the steward, and taking care of the crew.

While busy preparing to go underway, we’ve also begun classroom-style learning. Students are beginning to understand the terminology of the ship including the name of the lines, the sails, boat checks, and all of the small pieces of the puzzle. We are excited and anxious to begin our voyage as the departure day approaches with the conclusion of our maintenance period and the beginning of our cruise.
