Monomoy Race
Established by the Marine Society of the City of New York, The George C. Previll Memorial Inter-Academy Monomoy Challenge takes place annually at SUNY Maritime in New York City. Teams from SUNY, Maine Maritime Academy, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and the United States Merchant Marine Academy compete in a round-robin and seamanship skills competition and race. The challenge is designed to foster leadership, teamwork, and fundamental seamanship skills. Following the event, the teams gather for a celebratory BBQ and awards ceremony.

Race History
In 1963, Maine Maritime Academy particpiated in the Internation Lifeboat Race in New York, New York. MMA’s Midshipmen won the race that day and we continue to celebrate their accomplishments annually on May 28. Download and view Monomoy Event Information Packet.
