Dr. Rich Kimball Laboratory Director | Rm 301 Dimukes Hall richard.kimball@mma.edu | Dr. Kimball is METEL’s Technical Director and Professor of Engineering at MMA. He earned a Ph.D. in Ocean Engineering at MIT in the area of Marine Propulsion. He has several years' experience as an engineering manager and has published research in a wide range of disciplines including: marine propulsion, ocean energy, alternative fuels, wave basin/tow tank and wind tunnel testing. Dr. Scott Eaton Associated Faculty & Assistant to the Director | Rm 102 ABS Building scott.eaton@mma.edu | Dr. Eaton is an Assistant Research Professor of Engineering and is Assistant to the Director. His research interests include alternative fuel chemistry and processing, advanced combustion engine strategies and exhaust chemistry and aftertreatment technologies. |
Laurie Flood Associated Faculty & Engineering Department Chair | Rm 102 Dismukes Hall laurie.flood@mma.edu | Ms. Flood is a Professor and Department Chair of Engineering at MMA. She is a licensed marine engineer and expert in marine environmental regulation and compliance. Prof. Flood has an M.A. in Environmental Law and Policy and a M.S. in environmental engineering. Dr. Paul Wlodkowski Associated Faculty | Rm 104 Dismukes Hall paul.wlodkowski@mma.edu | Dr. Wlodkowski is a Professor of Engineering at MMA and earned his Ph.D. from University of Maryland. He worked for Wilcox Research developing vector acoustic sensors for the Navy and has experience with active materials such as thermoelectrics. More Info |

He earned a Ph.D. in Ocean Engineering from the University of Maine. His research interests include analytical wave resistance and hull optimization. More Info |
Richard Collenburg Associated Faculty | Rm 418 Leavitt Hall richard.collenburg@mma.edu | Mr. Collenburg is an Assistant Professor of Engineering at MMA. He holds a USCG Chief Engineer Unlimited license and has 3 years experience managing technical departments for the offshore oil and gas industry. He is a Caterpillar certified master mechanic for large bore engines and has 10 years experience operating and repairing offshore equipment world wide. |
Mark Libby Associated Faculty | Rm 204 Dismukes Hall mark.libby@mma.edu | Mr. Libby is a Professor of Engineering at MMA. He is a USCG licensed Chief Engineer and is an expert in marine diesel engines, their operation and maintenance. |

Tom Lokocz Adams Lead Research Engineer | Andrews Hall Rm 112 thomas.adams@mma.edu | Mr. Adams manages the METEL lab and is an experienced engineer working in the marine field. He holds a USCG 200 ton Captains license. |
Dr. Brendyn Sarnacki Research Engineer | Andrews Hall Rm 111 brendyn.sarnacki@mma.edu | Dr. Sarnacki received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering in the areas of combustion and particulate measurements from UVA. He is an expert in state of the art emissions measurements. |
Travis Wallace Research Engineer | Andrews Hall Rm 110 travis.wallace@mma.edu | Mr. Wallace holds a USCG 3rd Assistant Engineering License and a in B.S. Marine Systems Engineering. He is a Ph.D. candidate in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maine. His expertise is engineering of thermoelectric devices. He is a principle engineer of our heavy fuel engine systems. |
Dr. Joshua Henry Research Engineer | Andrews Hall joshua.henry@mma.edu | Dr. Henry earned his Ph.D. in physical chemistry and materials engineering in 2005 from Cornell University. He conducts original research in the areas of materials synthesis and alternative fuels. |
Rick Smith Research Engineer | Rm 113 Andrews Hall richard.smith@mma.edu | Mr. Smith holds a B.S. in Marine Systems Engineering from MMA. He is a retired ships captain and has experience in engineering and project management in the areas of alternative energy and marine systems. |

He is a group leader of UMaine's Forest Bioproducts Research Institute and has significant experience in the development of fuel products from various feedstocks such as biomass. More Info |
Dr. William DeSisto | Professor of Chemical Engineering University of Maine wdesisto@umche.maine.edu | Dr. DeSisto is a professor of Chemical Engineering at UMaine and earned his Ph.D. from Brown University in Chemical Engineering. He has significant experience in the development of fuels from various feedstocks such as biomass. He worked for 10 years as a researcher at the US Naval Research Laboratory. More Info |
