Ender Asyali holds a B.S. in Maritime Transportation Engineering and an M.S. degree in Maritime Transportation and Management Engineering from Istanbul Technical University, and a Ph.D. in Maritime Policy from Istanbul University. Dr. Asyali has been serving in the maritime education and training domain at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels since 1998.

He holds an STCW compliant unlimited master mariner license and has served aboard various ships including, product and chemical tankers, passenger vessels, and passenger ferries on international waters.

Dr. Asyali served as the head of the Marine Engineering Department at Dokuz Eylül University from 2002-2014. He became a Full Professor there in 2014.

In 2001, Dr. Asyali held a year-long Visiting Professor appointment at MMA. He returned for a second three-year appointment in 2014. Dr. Asyali joined Maine Maritime Academy as an Associate Professor in 2017.

His teaching and research interests are safety, human factor, organizational behavior, management and leadership in shipping, oil pollution prevention and response, electronic navigation, simulator-based navigation education, and training.

Dr. Asyali’s work has been published in a variety of journals related to shipping, maritime education, and training. His book, Bridge and Engine-Room Resources Management, was released in 2014. He has presented more than 40 articles at international conferences.
