Captain Rappaport has had a 30-year career at sea, shipping internationally aboard sail training and oceanographic research vessels. Appointed to the Marine Transportation faculty in 2020, his current teaching assignments include meteorology, small craft construction, casualty analysis and watchkeeping.
As an educator, Capt. Rappaport enjoys the challenge of presenting complex material to students at multiple levels of experience, with a special interest in the functioning of teams and their leaders in field settings. His first book, Reading the Glass, a narrative work on seafaring and meteorology, was published in 2023.
