More beautiful conditions for practicing celestial navigation skills, but the best part of the day came in the afternoon as the wind began to fill in from the SW. The crew, who had spent the day learning the lines for controlling the sails, quickly hoisted all sail and the ship began to sail along at 5 knots. As the wind continued to fill in the ship began to clip along at a steady 7 knots. Great sailing for us, but our luck was not up yet. We saw several large spouts on the horizon which several crew thought to be either a blue whale or a large fin whale. The good sailing conditions continued through sun set after which we began our first three star fixes of the trip.
