3/26/20 | Message from the President

Dear MMA Family,

These are challenging and confusing times for all of us.  I know that you and your families have many questions about what is going on, just as my loved ones do. I wish I could answer all of those questions, but clear answers about many things troubling us right now are just not available.

I want you to know that I have very knowledgeable and dedicated people working to keep me informed about developments at the local, state and national level and advising me about how those developments may affect the Academy. I will make this commitment to you; I will do my very best to keep you as informed as possible about matters related to the Academy and I will make those decisions that are in the best interest of the Academy and our people.

We are making decisions on a week-to-week basis as we monitor the spread of the virus across Maine and responding to guidance from State and Federal authorities. Accordingly, and in keeping with Governor Mill’s order, I am extending my request through April 8 that those of you whose tasks enable you to work from home, please continue to work from home. And, those of you whose tasks can only be completed on campus, but who are not required to come to campus, will continue to be covered under the provisions of paid administrative leave through April 8 as you are now. Your supervisors will continue to provide you with guidance and, of course, as things continue to develop, we will be monitoring the situation and I will notify you of any additional changes to this schedule.

I know that being at home like this is unsettling, but for the time being we need to do what we can to address the threat posed to our community by this virus. We are a family and we will work through this together. Be well, stay safe, please observe guidance about social distancing and take care of your loved ones.

Dr. William J. Brennan
