2/28/22 | Message from President Brennan – CDC Masking Guidelines

Good morning,

Last Friday, the CDC released new guidelines regarding indoor masking. The new county-specific recommendations take three localized data sets into consideration: hospital admissions, the number hospital beds being used, and the total number of new COVID-19 cases in an area. Depending on the overall numbers, a county may be deemed to be low, medium, or high risk.

To explore the new guidelines, please visit the CDC website.

Additional information can be found on the Community Levels page of the CDC website.

As of this writing, Hancock County is listed as high risk; as such, masks are still required to be worn indoors at Maine Maritime Academy. However, we anticipate that the level will drop in the coming days, and we will adjust our protocols to match the reduced risk of transmission at that time.

The health and safety of our community remains our most pressing priority, but the new recommendations signal a new approach to managing the virus. MMA will move in tandem with CDC guidelines to embrace our new reality and move into this new phase.

Thank you for everything you do to support our students and our mission.

Sincerely,
signatureBill Brennan
