Bio

Capt. Trent Quinby, Assistant Professor of Marine Transportation, grew up on Isle au Haut in Penobscot Bay. Raised in an island community, he learned a deep appreciation and respect for the water working on fishing boats through high school. A 2010 graduate of Maine Maritime Academy, Capt. Quinby has worked in multiple areas of the Maritime Industry; his predominant time at sea being on ocean-going tugboats hauling container barges throughout Alaskan and Pacific waters. After nearly a decade of bobbing around the Bering Sea, he transitioned to inspected passenger vessels of numerous types before joining the faculty of MMA.

Capt. Quinby brings his deep love of exploring and sharing knowledge to his teaching. His overarching goal: helping to create skilled, seasoned students and graduating Mariners who have the tools and knowledge to continue to grow in the Maritime World.
