Bio

Captain Sean C. Walsh, Assistant Professor of Marine Transportation Department, has been a "professional" mariner since the age of 10 when he purchased his first boat and obtained a lobster license. Growing up, he worked in the family's Kennebunkport marina, gaining experience in boat handling, maintenance, and vessel inspection.

He enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in 1987 and served until 2011, when he joined the faculty at MMA. Walsh has extensive experience in ship handling, vessel systems, port security, emergency response, icebreaking, search and rescue, seamanship, aids to navigation, law enforcement, and vice and presidential security. Over his 24+ year career, he has been the recipient of numerous Coast Guard medals and commendations, as well as private and public sector citations for his outstanding service.
