Celestial

High pressure is dominating our weather for the next few days so the early morning watches enjoyed a beautiful clear sky full of stars. With this good weather we took the opportunity to begin our work with celestial navigation training. Up to this point the students have received in class instruction in celestial navigation, but many have never had the opportunity to put their knowledge to use with actual observations used to fix their position aboard a ship. The student crew will make observations throughout the trip recording their celestial sites in their cruise notebooks and improving their plotting skills along the way.
