Institutional Review Board (IRB) for Research involving Human Subjects
Maine Maritime Academy (MMA)’s Institutional Review Board (IRB) for Research involving Human Subjects is comprised of scientists, non-scientists and community members. The IRB was established in 2015 to protect the rights and welfare of human subjects recruited to participate behavioral, social science, educational, or biomedical research by researchers affiliated with MMA.
Students, staff and faculty who conduct research involving human subjects must adhere to MMA’s Policy and Procedures for the Protection of Human Subjects Research. These documents exist for the rights and welfare of the people who participate in research.
No research observing or interacting with people, or by collecting and examining any form of identifiable private information about people, may be conducted until the IRB has reviewed the research protocol.
