Jim McKenna is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Ocean Studies Department. Upon completion of his Ph.D. in oceanography at the University of Rhode Island in 1996, Jim served as Assistant Professor, Associate Director, and Acting Director at the Williams College-Mystic Seaport Maritime Studies Program. Jim moved to Maine in 2004 (a long-term goal) when he accepted a research and education coordinator position with the National Park Service. Jim joined the MMA faculty in 2007 and has since also served as Maine Sea Grant's Assistant Director for Research from 2010-2014.
Jim's research interests include estuarine and near-shore systems ecology, resource management, and conservation ecology. His current research focus involves a multi-institutional, NSF-funded, Sustainable Environmental Aquaculture (SEA) research initiative.Ph.D., Oceanography, University of Rhode Island
