2016 Summer Training Cruise

Day 78: A day on a ship

Posted on: July 22, 2016

Location: 39° 2.6’ N, 45° 58.0’ W
Weather: Mostly Sunny      Wind: 18 kts N            Seas: Gentle Swell
Alpha: Training       Bravo: Utility      Charlie: Watch     Delta: Maintenance

Students could be seen on deck today enjoying the warm sun, which is a refreshing change to most on board from the cool, cloudy skies of Ireland and Belgium. Students continue to carry out shipboard duties, as deck maintenance washes soot off the weather decks, and engine maintenance puts a fresh coat of paint on the decks in the machinery spaces. The training company learned how to use sextants on the deck side as the junior engineers learned about fuel purifiers. Utility kept the inside of the ship clean, and Charlie Company is hard at work keeping the engine running and the ship on the correct heading.
