Today we would like to highlight the work that the engineers have been doing over the course of this cruise. This year we have cadets visiting from King’s Point assisting our Senior engineers down in the engine room to help alleviate the pressure put on our senior class as the only cadet engineers on board. These seniors are taking classes at the same time as their regular duties down in the engine room; learning skills such as taking apart machinery.
The ability to take apart equipment safely and efficiently is key in maintaining vessels. Equipment such as the sewage centrifuge can often need taking apart should there be a clog in the system, and because of this, it is one of the many machines that they gain practice taking apart to look at the components and go over safe methods of doing so, such as using lifts to remove heavy parts.
