With the newest set of training cycles comes perhaps some of the perhaps less-known training that MIDN receive during their time. Engineers and deck students alike spend time learning emergency steering through the steering gear as well as procedures for entering confined spaces like ballast tanks. Much praise was given on the bridge for students operating the steering gear as they were doing nearly as well as autopilot given slightly rough seas at the time of their lesson.
Last night pretzel night was held by Sodexo staff with a line of optional sauces to enjoy with or on the pretzels. Tonight, deck students spent much time at the twilight hours getting readings on star locations with sextants as well as latitude and longitude by the moon.
