While in Port Canaveral, students had the opportunity to take a day-long shipboard firefighting course at the Port Canaveral Maritime Academy. The Academy’s “ship” is made from discarded shipping containers; among other things, students received instruction in fighting Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) fires.
The training was arduous due to the high temperature and humidity along the coast of north-central Florida in the summertime. Many thanks to our embarked Sodexo staff for ensuring students received boxed lunches and much-appreciated ice-cold water at mid-day! Students who attended this training will receive a certificate from the Port Canaveral Maritime Academy.
Special thanks to CDR Christian for sharing these training photos!
Due to the Training Ship’s limited connectivity to the internet, blog postings are delayed and are not intended for real-time communication. To communicate with your student, please send messages to his or her issued e-mail address.
