For the first full day in port, many midshipmen signed up to take part in firefighting training at the Marine Fire Fighting Academy. While there they gained experience fighting various fires including those unique to LNG-powered vessels.
Shortly after their return from the center, officials from Port Canaveral including the port director Captain John Murray, Vice president Diane Luensmann, Pilot Richard Grimison, and Director of Communications and Public Affairs Steven Linden arrived. During this visit, the staff of Port Canaveral gave a warm welcome to the crew and cadets of the State of Maine on her maiden visit to the port with a framed picture and a tour of the ship. Captain Murray is an alumnus of MMA and has been making efforts to get the TSSOM to pay a visit for many years now during his tenure at the port.
