Today TSSOM began her arrival to Port Canaveral with the retrieval of the pilot at 1300 to guide the crew towards the pier. To each side flanked two tugboats, the Christine S and Cape Elisabeth, which worked tirelessly to hold the TSSOM in place while workers were on deck and ashore so they could tie off by about 1445. While the line handlers were hard at work, the remaining cadets spent their time in the usual cycles of utility, maintenance, watch, and training.
By 1645, the first liberty was called for upperclassmen, soon followed by lowerclassmen. Many turned towards local restaurants as their first stop near the port before further excursion into Port Canaveral and Cocoa beach. The evening was later interrupted by thunderstorms, which attracted its own attention as storm surfers were spotted at the local beaches.
