It is finally time! At 12:36 p.m. the final line was let go and the TSSOM was turned around by Belfast-based tug boats Fournier Boys and Captain Arthur Fournier. During this time student line handlers pulled the lines in and assisted in tying the tug boats to the TSSOM in order to perform the maneuver.

During departure Captain MacArthur recorded significant events in the departure, location, times, as well as those involved. Assisting with the departure was Pilot Captain Skip Strong and later duties assumed by our Chief Mate B. McAvoy. Once underway, TSSOM paused 0.5 nautical miles off of Turtle Head, Islesboro, ME in order to conduct one of many lifeboat drills in preparation for being out at sea.

The final departure occurred 1.3 nautical miles ENE of Three Fathom Ledge, where the TSSOM began her voyage out towards Nova Scotia.
