Our first day out at sea started smoothly. Engine maintenance did considerable work today, focusing on the main engine as well as the main fire pumps. During this time, we decided to test our backup motor, known as the e-engine, an electric engine designed to take up the load should the main engine fail. While this engine is not nearly as fast as our main diesel engine, it is more than enough to counter the current and continue on our way.

By 1600 all maintenance had been completed and we were prepared to go weather an impending storm off the coast.
