After a morning of utility work and training, the afternoon brought new challenges as a fire emergency drill and abandon ship drill commenced. During this time members of the Emergency Squad rushed to don turn-out gear as practice, soon followed by members of the Boat Squad practicing launching lifeboats with cranes and gravity-driven tracks, down to the deck where they could be boarded. This is a skill practiced in classes well before Cruise, this way such exercises act as a refresher for many of our cadets on their first or third voyage experience. These drills are incredibly important to ensure timeliness should disaster strike as you can never be too prepared while out at sea.
