Early this morning at 4:30 the TSSOM was boarded by the Pilot to assist in entering the harbor. By 6:30 a barge was along the port side tied up and ready to begin refueling operations. Over 1,000 metric tons of fuel was transferred from the barge to the TSSOM without spill or accidents, a very successful operation. All of this was according to schedule and important for the continuation of cruise.
However, today the difficult choice was made to not transfer to pier side operations due to the Covid Delta variant in growing numbers. While logistics are to be made out and finalized, this was the decision that both students and staff backed as infections and quarantine at this point in cruise could influence the fall semester.
Despite this change in plan, events were soon underway to keep morale high, such as Fry Bar Night moved forwards to today which brought many smiles to the mess deck.
As of current, the plan is that tomorrow evening, we will lift anchor once more northbound underway.
