Ship yard period continues this week with final painting and details to get the vessel back in the water.
Another project that we were able to take care of during this period was re-caulking some of our topside planking that needed a refresh. Caulking in a wooden vessel is vital to keep the water out and protect the wooden planks from rot. We use Oakum and cotton to caulk the planks in the traditional fashion. The cotton goes in first followed by the oakum, which is often made of jute fiber soaked with pine tar.
We finished the week with launching the Bowdoin!
