2019 Schooner Bowdoin

July 30: Readying the vessel

Posted on: July 31, 2019

Today, we are getting ready to head offshore and undertake the passage to Nova Scotia. The crew reviewed offshore safety procedures and learned how to reef Bowdoin’s main sail.

Students also got a chance to continue work on their celestial navigation skills and used a sextant to calculate the vessels latitude by local apparent noon.

Happily, it looks like we’re in for some good weather for the passage!
