The crew awoke to another magnificent summer day, this time greeted by a sunrise that painted the eastern sky in vibrant shades of pink and orange.
With the engine online, we weighed anchor and set a course for Portland. A rolly day at sea left several crew members feeling a bit green, but they powered through the morning and managed some chicken soup for lunch.
Around 1300, the southwest wind filled in, and we set sail. We cracked off toward Portland Head Light, where we were greeted by local schooners and tour boats.
Bowdoin made a fine grandstand entrance into the harbor, tacking up the Fore River and firing the signal gun near the Maine State Pier to announce our arrival. Once the sails were struck, the Casco Bay Bridge was hailed and opened for our passage.
A floating dock awaited us at Portland Yacht Services, complete with shore power and welcome access to showers and facilities for the crew—our home away from home for the next few days.
