Research investigating microplastics and toxic compounds in Penobscot Bay mentioned in the Working Waterfront

Huxley Conner (Marine Science/SVO, ’18) and Assistant Professor Carey Friedman have been sampling Penobscot Bay for microplastics and toxic compounds including flame retardants and compounds released when wood and other organic material is burned. The work is part of Huxley’s senior research project and a Maine Sea Grant Program Development award to Dr. Friedman.
