Ellie Gellerson has research internship at Texas A&M (summer 2021)

Senior Ellie Gellerson (Marine Science, 2022) spent her summer immersed in an REU (research experience for undergraduates) through Texas A&M University. Ellie says the following about her experience:

“My internship this summer was through Texas A&M’s REU: Observing the Ocean. I worked under Dr. Shuang Zhang on a project where we developed a machine learning framework to predict chlorophyll content within the Gulf of Mexico through chemical and physical ocean parameters and river nutrient data. The official title of my project was “Using a Data Driven Approach to Predict Chlorophyll Content in the Gulf of Mexico through River Nutrient Data”. I started the summer with no coding experience, and learned so much this summer, and was able to code my own webpage by the end! All members of my REU program were required to do a final presentation on our projects for the summer, where I was awarded best presentation! The best presentation award also came with a grant for me to attend ASLO in 2022 and present my summer research there. All of my data I compiled this summer, figures, and results can be seen on this webpage (which I coded and designed as a part of my project!) https://ocng.shinyapps.io/gom_river_ocean_app/”

Way to go Ellie!
