2018 Summer Training Cruise

Day 5: The First Day at Sea

Posted on: May 11, 2018

The first day truly at sea has been a great one. We encountered some light fog and breezy conditions that dissipated around 8PM last night. Very smooth sailing along the passage to New York to take on bunkers. Since departing Castine yesterday, the students have been busy at work. Alpha company has been on Utility – working to get the ship in shape following her dry docking. Bravo company has been assigned to their professional training which mixes both classroom work and hands-on application of the recently learned material. Charlie company has been the Watch company standing all watch form apprentice to journeyman level under the oversight of a licensed officer. Delta Company has been assigned Maintenance company and the students are applying equal parts ingenuity and elbow grease to keep TSSOM looking sharp. Spirits are high!
