Woodsmen Club

IMG_0004

The Maine Maritime Academy Woodsmen Club is dedicated to keeping alive the traditional skills used to cut timber and get it to the mill. The purpose of Woodsmen Club is to teach people a competitive co-ed intercollegiate sport that is based on various skills which are traditionally part of forestry, educational, and training programs. Events include sawing, chopping, axe throwing, log rolling, pulp tossing, and other traditional skills.

Club members organize practices, raise funds, and select the annual events they wish to enter. Competitions are held throughout the Northeast and Canada.

Team members need no prior experience and are provided all required safety equipment. In addition, members are coached in the safe techniques required in competitions.

Teams are comprised of up to six members, with each member competing in singles, doubles, and team events. We field both men’s and women’s teams.

Being part of the woodsmen team is a unique experience and affords a wonderful opportunity to meet a great group of people. Team members have gone on to compete in professional lumberjack competitions.
