On-Campus Living

Maine Maritime Academy prides itself on being a residential campus, with residence halls serving our undergraduate and graduate student populations. All students are required to live on-campus unless the off-campus housing requirements can be met.

Not sure what to pack? Check out our suggested “What to Bring and Not Bring to Campus” document. Please Note: Students who are members of the Regiment of Midshipmen should also review the Regimental Packing List for new students and refer to the Regimental Manual for returning students, as items differ depending on class rank within the Regiment.

Curtis Hall

Curtis Hall is the largest residence hall of its kind in the state of Maine, with up to 667 undergraduate students housed in any given year. Most residents of Curtis live in a double room and share either a semi-private, or a community bathroom. Within Curtis Hall, there are also some triple rooms. The room measurements for Curtis Hall are 11′ 4″ X 17′. Community spaces within Curtis Hall include the Bilge (a recreation room with a pool table and ping-pong table, large screen TVs, couches, and a full kitchen), the Gaming Lounge, and a study lounge on each floor.

Several administrative offices can also be found in Curtis including the Commandant’s Staff, Counseling Services, the Dean of Student Services, Health Services, Residential Life, and Student Activities. Curtis Hall is also the home to the Barbershop, Campus Bookstore, and the Regimental Wedge Office.

The Assistant Director of Residential Life lives in Curtis Hall and supervises the team of Resident Assistants (RAs) who also live in Curtis. RAs are responsible for building community through programming that enhances the academic experience at the Academy. RAs also provide supervision of Curtis Hall, provide incident management, monitor conduct, address safety concerns, and assist students as needed.

The Commons Apartments

The Commons Apartments consist of one-bedroom apartments furnished for double occupancy. The Commons Apartments house up to 38 undergraduate and graduate students 21 years of age or older. Each apartment has a bathroom, bedroom, kitchen, and living room. Apartments come furnished with a couch, coffee table, and end tables. The kitchen has a full-size fridge, stove with oven, and sink. Residents of the Commons are responsible for supplying their cookware.

Gender-Inclusive Housing

At MMA, we are committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all students, regardless of gender identity or gender expression.

Gender-inclusive housing allows students to select their roommates regardless of gender, and is available to students of any class year in both Curtis Hall and The Commons. Incoming students interested in gender-inclusive housing should indicate their preference in their on-campus housing application.

Students will only be placed in gender-inclusive housing if they request it specifically. MMA will not assign students to a gender-inclusive space without their expressed interest.
