Evening Captain’s Report
Good evening from the Bowdoin,
We arrive in Lunenburg at 1500AT to a warm welcome from friends in boats and crowds on the piers watching Bowdoin strike sail just off the town docks. I personally have many fond memories here in Lunenburg and it is always a treat to visit this historic seaside town. It is home to the famous Blue Nose II, the second replica of the Blue Nose, which is known for holding the titles of the great fishing schooner races of the 1920-30’s. It is a huge point of pride for Canada in general, which you will also find on the Canadian quarter. Lunenburg is also home to Picton Castle which is a square-rigged Barq that has sailed 7 world voyages under the command of Captain Dan Moreland. This is a town that is still very attached to the sea and those who sail upon it. It is not uncommon for all of the fishing boats to blast their horns as vessels depart, wishing safe passage. A true seafaring town still today and although it has a large tourism industry it still maintains its working waterfront status. A couple of days were spent in Lunenburg where we caught up with old shipmates, and the students were able to explore the town and even get a private tour of the Atlantic Fishing Museum.
Tomorrow we will top on supplies and be underway by 1300AT.
Sincerely,
Capt. Peacock
