Evening Captain’s Report

Good morning from the Bowdoin,

All is well aboard Bowdoin. The trip back from NS this time of year can be challenging as the prevailing winds are from the SW. This means we have to work extra hard to get around the corner (Cape Sable) before we have a working sailing angle. It is also the crew’s first leg with actual wave height that has made several of our crew a bit green. As the bow plunges up and down with the waves and large spray reaches the quarter deck all look at Bowdoin with approval even despite being sick. She is a very able vessel, and as long as the crew can hang in there, she will take you to where you are going. We have had to make a run further offshore, about 60nm, to set ourselves up for when the wind shifts from WSW to true SW which will hopefully be a good sailing angle. As we are currently motor sailing under a reefed main, speed has been good though, and we still look at an arrival late on the 6th.

All remains as before, and we will keep you updated on our progress.

Sincerely,

Capt. Peacock
