June 6: Busy In Belfast

Posted on: June 25, 2021

Some of the classes that VOT and SVO students take at Maine Maritime come in really handy while we are in the shipyard! Things like diesel maintenance, ship construction, communication, and hazmat safety are put to good use as students work doing such tasks as fairing, servicing seacocks, preparing the prop so it cuts through the water nicely, and even removing and replacing bungs in the planks.

Our days spent in the yard are gritty, hot, and long. But, we’re making great progress and learning a lot.

Today was all about paint prep: lots of taping and priming. Starboard topsides are completely painted thanks to Brandy and the wise guys. Everyone put in a hard days work in the heat and the results show.
