Today marks the start of the CR313 cruise on Bowdoin. This cruise, for rising seniors in the VOT major, acts as a capstone course. During this two-week long cruise to the Canadian Maritimes the 10 students onboard will put to use many of the skills that they have learned in the classrooms in Castine. Operating Bowdoin as junior watch officers, the students will practice their skills in bridge resource management, celestial navigation, radar plotting, passage planning, and weather routing. Currently, we’re focusing on vessel orientation and safety training as we get ready to head offshore with Bowdoin.
