CR-214, the first of two summer training cruise courses, is officially underway aboard Bowdoin. This summer’s training cruise will take ten students to the South Coast of Newfoundland. The student crew is working hard to get the ship ready to sail by June 4. Over the next three weeks they will be sanding, painting, varnishing, and getting safety equipment ready. The outfitting will include a shipyard period at Front Street Shipyard in Belfast, Maine.
The CR-214 course acts as a great introduction to vessel outfitting and ocean voyaging. Students taking the course are in the Vessel Operations and Technology major studying to become Mates aboard vessels up to 1600 tons.
