Many graduates of Maine Maritime Academy give to scholarships as a way of “paying forward” funding they themselves received as a student or in acknowledgement of a successful career they believe MMA prepared them for.

There are two types of scholarship funds at MMA:

• Annual “Pass-through” Scholarships provide the entire contribution to selected students as soon as possible. Gifts of $2,000 or more for 3 consecutive years may be named as you wish.
• Endowed scholarship funds are invested and just the earnings are distributed once accrued. Earnings are calculated based on a 5-year average and typically average 5% of the principal.  Endowed funds require a minimum investment of $25,000 which you can contribute through a multi-year pledge and the scholarship will be made in the name of your choice.

There are hundreds of scholarships at Maine Maritime Academy, each with a specific purpose and criteria to be utilized in selecting the recipient. The majority are named to honor loved ones or colleagues or the donor who created the scholarship. The following are funds contributed to by alumni and other donors and are for your consideration should you choose not to name your own.

Please contact the Advancement office at 207-326-2177 for assistance in setting up a Scholarship in honor of your class – and reaching out to your classmates to contribute! Many classes do this to celebrate special anniversary reunions or in conjunction with Homecoming.
