Maine Maritime Academy Announces Fall 2020 Semester Plans

CASTINE, Maine—Maine Maritime Academy President William J. Brennan announced today that the college will reopen campus, holding in-person courses beginning August 31.

The Jackson Laboratory and Puritan Medical Products Partner with MMA to Ensure Safety of Students and Crew During Simulated Training Cruise

CASTINE, Maine—Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) President William J. Brennan announced today that the college will run a pier-side training evolution for graduating seniors aboard the Training Ship State of Maine with the help of two Maine organizations: nonprofit biomedical research institute The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) and Puritan Medical Products. A total of 60 students, faculty, and ship’s crew will be double-tested for COVID-19 prior to boarding the ship using specimen collection kits from Puritan Medical Products. JAX will test the patient samples for the presence of the virus at its Connecticut-licensed CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) and CAP-accredited laboratory, and the test results will be turned around within 24 hours.

MMA to Celebrate the Class of 2020 in Virtual Commencement Ceremony on June 6

CASTINE, Maine—Maine Maritime Academy will celebrate its 77th Commencement on Saturday, June 6, 2020 with an online ceremony for the Class of 2020. The event begins at 11:00 a.m. at commencement.mainemaritime.edu. The college will also provide a live feed to facebook, enabling family and friends to watch and comment over social media.

Statement of the Consortium of State Maritime Academies on Announcement of Shipyard to Build NSMV

“The Consortium of State Maritime Academies applauds yesterday’s announcement that the Philly Shipyard in Philadelphia, PA has been selected to build the nation’s new National Security Multi-mission Vessel (NSMV) fleet.

The NSMVs will replace the aging fleet of training ships being operated today by the State Maritime Academies to train future mariners.  These ships are the first purpose built maritime training ships in the world. The vessels will be owned by the federal government and operated by the State Maritime Academies during training cruises. They will be operated by the federal government when used to serve their dual role as disaster response vessels.Read More…

CASTINE, Maine—The Board of Trustees of Maine Maritime Academy will hold a regular quarterly meeting on Thursday, February 27, 2020. The Board will meet as a Committee of the Whole to conduct committee business beginning at 8:30 a.m., with a break for lunch between 12:00 noon and 1:00 p.m., and convene later in the afternoon as the Board to take formal action. The meeting is expected to conclude at 4:00 p.m.

Maine Maritime Academy Announces Graduates and Dean’s List for Fall 2019

CASTINE, Maine—Maine Maritime Academy recently named 309 students to the Dean’s List for outstanding academic achievement in the first semester of the 2019-2020 academic year.

Students named to the Dean’s List earn a grade point average of 3.3 or above on a 4.0 scale.
