An essential part of any cruise is the frequent but random fire, abandon ship, and man overboard drills we must perform to be properly prepared in case of a real emergency. We never know when they will happen. This time, they got us at 0800 sharp, as our coffee grew cold in the galley. Common elements of these drills include: mustering at your assigned lifeboat or raft, preparing and lowering lifeboats, and waiting. While we wait on the deck, E squad suits up and responds to the simulated event, in this instance, a fire in the laundry room.
