We arrived in Iceland early June 5th with delta company handling the lines. Students soon disembarked the ship and scattered into the land of ice and stone, finding warm Icelandic sweaters and even warmer hot springs. Some chose to hike, and others chose to zoom around on electric scooters.
Dozens of these scooters accumulated outside the ship each night. This became a sight to see, and most likely a dread for Hopp employees. By the last night in Reykjavik, over 70 scooters rested outside the gates. All were taken back and redistributed throughout the city by the next morning.
Students and crew enjoyed perusing Icelandic fashion, escaping the overcast and rain inside many great museums, and the call to adventure that every view brought with it. Iceland is a beautiful, but fearsome place; one pool of water is so hot it could kill you while another is a hot tub.
Our next stop is Portland Maine, where we plan to continue our incident free port streak. During our transit we expect to see our roughest weather yet, with the potential for up to 20-foot swells. Regardless of the conditions, students aboard the ship are excited to see what our crossing of the North Atlantic has in store.
