Weather: Overcast, Rain Showers Wind: NE 18 kts. Seas: Moderate swell
The winds picked up a bit overnight with gusts over 30 kts and as a result the seas picked up as well. Things have settled down again now as we make our way to join the traffic separation scheme for the straight tomorrow morning. Since the weather was not conducive to outside work there was a lot more cleaning going on today. Tour sign-ups have started in the Ship’s Office for when we arrive in Cadiz and everyone is preparing for the pre-port inspection tomorrow night.
We are trying something new with the blog for the next few days. The 4/C that go out and take pictures during the day will now be providing the captions as well.
- 4/C Davidson and 4/C Zinni on the bridge keeping a weather eye out for potential collisions and keep the training ship on course to Cadiz.
- Mr. Murray, the ships electrician, working with a couple Charlie company midshipmen on the oily water separator alarm system.
- Armed and dangerous keeping the passage ways clean and sanitary. Suppressing the spread of germs is very important on a ship filled with nearly three-hundred people.
- Captain Slazas lecturing Delta second class about confined space entry. Here the students review safety procedures including entry permits, hazardous gas testing, and emergency procedures prior to actually going into a confined space such as a ballast tank. Hands on training combined with time in the 3 deck classrooms makes for a very fruitful training experience.
