We started the day with a heavy overcast and more showers but by noon the skies were clearing and work was able to move topside again. Delta made their way into the forward ballast tank for their confined space entry demonstration and the 4/C had an introduction to plotting. During engine training the 4/C worked on valve packing and gasket making while the 2/C focused on the main engine fuel system.
Today’s pictures and captions are provided by 4/C White & 4/C Wheeler.
- While half of Delta seemed to have disappeared into the hole (forward ballast tank), the other half tested their navigation skills by learning to plot courses, an essential for deck students. Here 4/c Platt and 4/c Tufekci work together on an assignment.
- Due to the clearing of the skies Bravo 4/c begin swabbing the decks (4/c Creeger and 4/c Bruns). Constant cleaning of the decks is necessary to prevent salt build up on the decks, which is a constant threat of producing rust.
- 4/c Acord works on grinding the winch housing on our lifeboat davit to prepare for priming and painting.
- Down below the main deck, Bravo Engine Maintenance finishes work on the Main Jacket Water cooler. Main Jacket Water is used to cool the main engine cylinders.
