Posted on: June 5, 2015
Location: 33 01.0 N 019 17.5 W Course: 270 Speed: 12.8 kts
Weather: Mostly Sunny Wind: NNE 22 kts. Seas: Moderate sea swell
The seas calmed down over night and work aloft was able to continue today. Meanwhile, the fuel injector for the #5 cylinder was not providing sufficient fuel so we switched over to the electric drive while the engineers swapped out injectors. We were up to speed again by noon and the students now have a project taking apart and cleaning the removed injector. Sodexo put on a “Fried Food Night” this evening with fried cheese, jalapeno poppers, and anything else they could find that would fit in the fryer.

The ships electrician and several students check the rectifier before starting the ships electric motor.

Deck maintenance cleans the salt from the ocean spray off the 03 reception deck before painting the cross members.

It is important when working on ladders to work in teams with a person to stabilize the latter against tipping and slipping, especially with the moderate sea swell that we have been experiencing over the last couple of days.
-
-
4/C Foelix and 4/C Farese scrubs soot build up off the I-Beams in the EOS flat of the engine room during engine maintenance. This is in preparation to paint the I-beams in the near future to prevent corrosion on any exposed metal.

Delta deck maintenance hang from the O4 Signal Bridge on bosun chairs while painting the starboard side of the forward house.

Mr. Murray, the ships electrician, along with some 2/C and 4/C prepare to start the emergency electric motor while the main engine is being worked on.

Now that the main engine has been stopped, the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd engineers along with some 2/c midshipmen prepare to remove the misfiring fuel injector on cylinder number 5.
