Clouds have dominated for the last 24 hours but the temperature is mild and the rain showers are widely scattered so we have been able to continue work above deck. Engineering continued to work on painting below decks as well. 4/C training has been working on more terrestrial navigation problems and valve packing in preparation for their next exam.

- A Charlie deck maintenance group receiving a safety briefing by the 2nd mate. Before we approach any task we thoroughly discuss and plan out what we are going to do. Carefully analyzing tasks helps us to find and mitigate any risks associated with the tasks.

- Charlie deck maintenance took advantage of the rain today and swabbed the decks. The work never stops, even for the weather.

- Delta Company was on deck training this morning. They learned how to deploy and retrieve a RHIB (ridged haul inflatable boat). We have two RHIBs aboard the TSSOM: One port and one starboard. The RHIBs are quick and can be easily deployed, so they are used in emergencies such as Man Overboard or Abandon Ship.

- 2/C O’Connor discussing our planned course with 2/C Fosler. 2/C O’Connor is standing the MOOD (Midshipmen Officer of The Deck) watch, responsible for the safe navigation and operation of the Ship. 2/C Fosler is standing the BMOW (Boatswain Mate of the Watch) watch, in charge of operational tasks of the ship. Both cadets report to the licensed deck watch officer and are ultimately responsible for the safe passage of the ship.
