2018 Summer Training Cruise

Day 6: New York

Posted on: May 12, 2018

This morning TSSOM arrived in New York and dropped anchor at about 0900. Shortly thereafter we made the fueling barge fast alongside to port and began taking on our bunkers to fill the fuel tanks for the voyage across the Atlantic and back to Castine. We plan to take 1,500 metric tons aboard which is approximately 480,00 gallons. Depending on the pumping capacity of the barge we will likely be on our way east tonight or early tomorrow morning. The view of New York City is impressive and we’ve seen a variety of different ships and craft of all sizes working the harbor.
