CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy students, officers, and crew will depart Castine on Tuesday, May 5 at approximately 1:30 PM on the Training Ship State of Maine (TSSOM) for the annual training evolution to foreign and domestic ports of call. This year’s itinerary includes stops in Charleston, South Carolina; Cadiz, Spain; Portland, Maine; Cobh, Ireland; Norfolk, Virginia; and Searsport, Maine.

Maine Maritime Academy Receives MEIF-SCI Grant to Complete Research and Development of Fuel-Efficient Lobster Boat Hull Design

CASTINE, Maine—Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) has received a grant of $75,312 from the Maine Economic Improvement Fund Small Campus Initiative (MEIF-SCI) to complete research and development of a lobster boat hull that increases fuel efficiency. Now in its fourth year of design and scale-model trials, the multi-year collaboration between MMA and the Penobscot East Resource Center (PERC) will be focused on completing the R&D phase of a trimaran design that significantly reduces fuel use and pollution, while maintaining the large deck capacity needed for commercial lobster fishing.

Michael Young Hired to Develop Curriculum for Preparing Students to Work in Offshore Industries

Brennan has announced that Michael Young of Ellsworth, a ’77 graduate and previous instructor at the college, has been hired to develop new courses and programs to prepare students for jobs in offshore industries. CASTINE, Maine–Maine Maritime Academy recently named 380 students to the Dean’s List for outstanding academic achievement in the first semester of the 2014-2015 academic year. Students named to the Dean’s List earn a grade point average of 3.3 or above on a 4.0 scale.

Maine Maritime Academy Earns Accreditation of Online Master’s Program in International Logistics Management

Brennan announced today that the college’s online Master of Science in International Logistics Management has achieved full accreditation status through the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). CASTINE, Maine—At a quarterly meeting on Friday, November 7, the Maine Maritime Academy Board of Trustees welcomed Robert J. Peacock II for a renewed 5-year term as Chair. Two new appointees also joined the Board of Trustees: Mr. Miles Theeman and Captain Wendy Morrison (Class of 1985). All trustees are appointed by the governor and serve a 5-year term.

Harold Alfond Foundation Awards $3.4 Million to Maine Maritime Academy For Engineering Scholarships and ABS Center

CASTINE, Maine—Dr. William J. Brennan, President of Maine Maritime Academy, announced today that the college will receive $3.4 million in gifts from the Harold Alfond Foundation to support two major initiatives at the college. The Foundation will give $1 million toward the construction of the ABS Center for Engineering, Science, and Research, and $2.4 million for the establishment of the Harold Alfond Engineering Scholarship for engineering students.
