The shipyard recently completed the removal of the last of the 55 planks required for access to the degraded frames found in the ships structure. Once the planks were removed, we worked with the USGC to conduct a thorough assessment of all of the frames and identified frame sections that will need to be replaced or repaired before the ship is put back into service. During the inspection, we identified 29 out of 320 sections that will require some form of refurbishment to return them to ‘like new’ condition. We are working with the shipyard and USCG to create a cost effective plan for each frame section that will return the vessel to optimum operating condition. While we finalize this plan, the shipyard continues work prepping the good frames by placing oak spiles in old fastener holes, stripping the rest of the bottom paint off, and prepping materials for beginning frame replacement and planking.

All the Best,

Captain McLean
